On The Farm Workshop Series
We love sharing everything we produce on the farm. Vegetables, flowers, eggs, herbs, free range fryers, wool fleeces, and orchard produce, and now we want to teach you what to do with it once you have it! We have found that many of you are much like us, having a desire to learn new skills and gain beneficial knowledge. so we are excited to share what we’ve learned and practiced, in hopes that we may also learn from many of you someday.
Join us on the farm to learn about our farming operation, pick your favorite flowers straight from our fields, practice floral design & flower arranging skills, design a holiday wreath, or make fall ciders from fresh orchard fruit, and sauerkrauts from our cabbages. Our farm is not open to the public, so this is your opportunity to get behind the scenes and experience the beauty of Calico Thicket Farm Co.
Our workshops are simply about inspiring your creativity, having fun, learning basic design or food storage skills and enjoying friends at the farm.
If you are interested in collaborating for a class, please contact us! We would be excited to hear from you.
But if you are here looking to learn, consider one of the following 2024 workshops!
-
Dahlias
This dahlia workshop will walk you through the entire process of starting your own dahlia patch - growing, harvesting, propagation through cuttings, seeds, and tubers. We will also cover dividing, identifying “eyes”, and winter storage. Go home with a tuber or two, and grow beautiful blooms with your new dahlia knowledge!
-
Garlic
Join us on the farm and share in the fun tradition of garlic braiding. You will take home your own braid, made from one of 4 organic softneck garlic varieties and dried flowers and grasses, both of which are grown here on our farm. Prepare for a winter of eating lots of nutritious garlic!
-
Sauerkraut
You know by now how beneficial the live probiotic cultures in homemade sauerkraut are for your health; building tough immune systems, and improving gut health, so now you just need to learn how to make it! This will be a fun class of starting your first fermentation. Bring a friend along for this fun class, and go home with your own quart of delicious kraut!
-
Tomatoes
This 3-part, hands-on class will teach you how to grow tomatoes successfully throughout the season in your own yard, or on your patio. Tour our hoophouse and field production areas and learn about the best varieties for outdoor growing in the Pacific Northwest.
